Handwriting Tools

Grade One is using Handwriting Without Tears as a handwriting program. Each student has a workbook and is also exposed to different types of writing tools and paper. We have begun focusing on lowercase letters and practicing writing between the lines. Part of handwriting is exposing children to different materials and ways to practice.

This week, the students used whiteboards, markers, and Wiki Sticks. They practiced writing their letters using the lines and they also got to use wiki sticks to form the letters.

Handwriting Tips:

  • All lowercase letters (except d and e) start at the top
  • Encourage children to slow down while writing
  • Put a sticker, smiley face, or symbol in the upper left corner as a reference point while writing letters
Handwriting Ideas:
  • Wiki Sticks
  • Legos
  • Salt Trays
  • Play dough
  • Whiteboards
