What math can you find at the turtle pond?

A few Blazing Marshmallows were itching to go to the ISM Turtle Pond today so we decided to spend our math time in nature. A math challenge was given to everyone and everyone accepted! They were all challenged to show mathematical thinking involving their observations at the turtle pond. They were encouraged to write and draw to explain their thinking. Each child showed their work in their new math journals! A large focus for us these past few weeks was understanding number groups and working on solving math equations or problems. Some children chose to write down number sentences, some chose to draw pictures and label with numbers, and some chose to write a math problem for others to solve. All of the students took time to share their math thinking to teachers and to peers.

Take a look at some of our thinking!
